Community, What is it?
The Oxford Dictionary defined it as: 1. Body of people living in one place, district or community. 2. Body of people having religion, ethnic origin, profession etc… in common. 3. Fellowship (community of interest) 4. Commune . 5. Joint ownership or liability. But there are other questions. Is it defined as much by people viewing it from the outside as people within it? Can one community benefit from using their resources to help another? I would like to use this platform to discuss this concept and see how it evolves. Feel free to post your photos that you feel represent examples of community. I’ll start it off with this random example of a group that I came across a while ago in a Toronto Park. I think that they called themselves the High Park Percussion Workshop. I think that it definitely qualifies as a community. I don’t know if it still exists but the coming of warm weather made me think about outside stuff.

Hi Folks,
Today's the day I'm getting a kind of rebirth. The first real instalment of The Adinkra Project is being shown at A Space Gallery. Thanks to my family and friends for helping me, us, get to this point. This is truly a collaborative project. I welcome all comments and feedback. I hope that you can make it to the show. Hey people, welcome to my new website!
This site will be more than a place to see what I've done in the past. I hope it turns into a place where we can learn about what's happening today and what's on the way. I think that I may have finally turned the corner in accepting this digital thing. I'm realizing how much power it can give the individual in times when the individual can feel a bit powerless. So lets do this and have fun doing it. A special shout out to my lady Donna, who's been so supportive, to Ed at Wheel Trans who told me about this great site builder, Kenneth Montague, Karen Augustine, Sandra Brewster, Dawit Petros, Steven Fakiyesi, David Cheung and many others for being timely allies. A very special shout out to my grown kids Daley, Maya, and Jonah (in order of age, not importance) for helping me to see the best in myself. |
