Regent Park, in little more than a decade, went from being the “answer” for thousands of Toronto’s most needy, to becoming associated with all that is dysfunctional in urban life. This reputation was not born out of hard statistics. But from a mythology that grew out of convenience for a society that conjured a “boogie man”. A neighbourhood that, over the years, would be the recipient of endless derision.
These photographs were made of the community, pre-redevelopment, to prove that the people, and primarily the youth within it’s borders worked, loved, and strove as all people. But primarily, we thrived.
